    The University of Michigan-Flint is one of the best colleges and universities in the Midwest according to The Princeton Review. The New York City-based education services company selected the school as one of the institutions it recommends in its “Best in the Midwest” section on its website feature 2009 Best Colleges: Region by Region.

     

  • All Rooms Filled at New Residence Hall

    Chancellor Ruth J. Person visited the new residence hall as part of her first tour of campus. The facilty will open August 24. As of last week, the Office of Housing and Residence Life announced that all 310 beds in the First Street Residence Hall have been assigned, and a wait list has begun.

     

  • 300 students now call campus home

    What began as a dream became a reality for the University of Michigan-Flint when 300 students moved into the first residence hall on the Flint campus on August 24, 2008.

     

  • Enrollment Record for Fall 2008

    Enrollment at the University of Michigan-Flint has increased for the fall 2008 semester to a record setting level. The overall increase is 5.5% compared to fall 2007. Tenth day enrollment for fall 2008 is 7,260 students compared to fall 2007 which totaled 6,883 students.

     

  • Remembering Dr. Loretta Dauwe

    A memorial service will be held Friday, September 26 in honor of the late Chair of the Computer Science, Engineering Science and Physics Department, Dr. Loretta Dauwe.

    The service will begin at 3 p.m. in the University of Michigan-Flint Theatre. A tree will be planted on campus in her memory.

     

  • Two Renowned Writers Coming to UM-Flint

    Each year, The Myron and Margaret Winegarden Visiting Professorship brings individuals of national and international reputation to the University of Michigan-Flint campus. This year, Tariq Ali and Christopher Paul Curtis will teach and/or interact with classes, participate in meetings with students and faculty, conduct lectures for students, faculty, staff and the community.

     

  • Flint River Rises Through Campus

    While melting snow and heavy rains caused flooding problems in many parts of Genesee County, UM-Flint was not one of them. The flood control project built by the Army Corp of Engineers that created Riverbank Park about three decades ago, kept the water away from campus and the downtown.

     

  • UM-Flint Selected FOX 66 Green Team Business Award Winner

    The FOX 66 Green Team announced that the University of Michigan – Flint is the February recipient of the FOX 66 Green Business Award. The Green Business Award is presented to one local business each month for taking strides to make their workplace more eco-friendly. UM-Flint proudly participates in many eco-friendly programs to serve our community and were highlighted for their efforts during a recent “TV 5 News at 10pm on FOX 66”. The university will continue to receive special recognition through-out February.

     

  • Celebrate History As It Happens

    The Office of the Chancellor and the American Democracy Project (ADP) are celebrating the

    Inauguration by sponsoring a teach-in in the Michigan Rooms of University Center. The almost hour and a half event that begins at 10 a.m.will cover the history, purpose, and function of Presidential Inaugurations, what issues are facing the new administration and the country, and what it means to us all as students, community members, and Americans.

     

  • “Imagine” becomes almost $40 million reality

    The University Of Michigan-Flint is proud to announce the successful completion of a three and a half year long public phase of its Capital Campaign “Imagine: The University of Michigan-Flint Difference.” Despite challenging economic times, the goal was not only reached, but was exceeded by nearly 10 million dollars.

     

  • What Students Are Saying About Their UM-Flint Experience in 2008

    An overwhelming number of students at the University of Michigan-Flint say they are satisfied with their overall educational experience. A national survey found that 85% of First Year students reported a favorable image of the university and 83% of seniors who responded would choose UM-Flint again if they could start their college career over.

    The University of Michigan-Flint First Year Experience class takes a bike tour with Professor Steve Landon to some of Flint’s most popular cultural attractions including the Farmers’ Market, Kearsley Park & Whalely Historic House.

    A new UM-Flint logo now marks the intersection of Kearsley and Wallenberg Streets. Two similar logos were placed at the crosswalk from Housing to MSB.

     

  • A Closer Look at the “Last Lecture” at UM-Flint

    Jeffrey Zaslow, co-author along with Randy Pausch,
    of the bestselling book The Last Lecture, will
    meet with and speak to University of Michigan-
    Flint students and faculty on Friday, October 17.
    The public is also invited to hear Zaslow’s
    9a.m. keynote address at the annual Student Academic Success Summit in the Michigan Room at the University Center.

     

  • IU Kokomo’s Person Recommended as New Chancellor

    Dr. Ruth J. personRuth J. Person, Chancellor of Indiana University Kokomo, has been recommended as the seventh leader of the University of Michigan-Flint. Person, an alumna of the University of Michigan, will begin her appointment August 18, pending approval by the Board of Regents. Inaugural festivities will be announced at a later date.

     

  • Institutional Review Board Gains Accreditation

    The University of Michigan’s Human Research Protection Program, which UM-Flint’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) is an integral part, was recently granted full accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). AAHRPP is a nationally recognized, nonprofit organization comprised of physicians, social and biological scientists, and attorneys. Marianne McGrath, chair, has worked for over three years to prepare the IRB for accreditation by improving board procedures and by offering education on ethical research practice to faculty, staff and students across campus.

     

  • International Winter Festival Photos

    Hundreds of students joined in the fun for the first UM-Flint International Winter Festival held December 10 in the University Center. Over 3500 cookies were consumed.
