Is this the year you keep that promise you made to yourself to actually be a participant and not just a spectator in the HealthPlus Crim Festival of Races? The University of Michigan-Flint Recreation Center will help you keep that promise.
The Rec Center has been the Official Training Center for the CrimFit Adult Training Program for the past several years, so the creation of a campus training program was a natural outcome.
The Crim Fitness Foundation has created a campus component that is specifically geared towards UM-Flint and Mott Community College students. The CrimFit Campus Training Program offers a discounted rate of $45 (normally $125) for students allowing for greater participation. The fee not only includes the training program (which meets every Thursday at 5:30 p.m. from the parking lot next to the Rec Center starting May 14, 2015), it also includes race registration for the Crim Festival of Races and two other area races this summer. Other perks include discounts at area merchants, free t-shirts, and more.
The group support that the training program provides helps to motivate participants throughout the next 4 months, making the training more fun and enjoyable. Theresa Landis, the director of Auxiliary and Recreational Services, says a number students, staff, and Rec Center members who have volunteered to become Group Leaders and have gone through Crim’s Group Leader training program.
“These volunteers are committed to sharing their time and talents to help others to reach their fitness goals. I hope many UM-Flint students, faculty, and staff take advantage of this great opportunity offered right on our campus,” said Landis. “There will be 5K and 8K training groups as well as the 10-mile for those who want to improve their time or for those whose goal is to just finish.”
You can run or walk it, it’s your choice. No matter where you start, the CrimFit training program helps you prepare for your race of choice at the HealthPlus Crim Festival of Races in August. It’s the healthy and fun way to get in shape and stay there.
