University of Michigan-Flint assistant professor of physical therapy Bara Alsalaheen, PhD is spearheading concussion research in the area. So far, Alsalaheen and his team have worked with four area high schools but he hopes to extend the network of participants in upcoming years.

Three UM-Flint Departments Will Join Effort to Improve Flint's University Corridor

Three University of Michigan-Flint departments will assist efforts to create a safe, walkable University Avenue corridor with the help of a $1 million federal grant to Kettering University that will support neighborhood revitalization efforts. UM-Flint's departments of Earth & Resource Science and Public Health & Health Sciences will share about $100,000 of the federal grant.

New Agreement Creates Seamless Transition to UM-Flint for Mott Community College Early Childhood Education Students

The University of Michigan-Flint and Mott Community College (MCC) have created an Early Childhood Articulation Agreement between the two schools. It was recently signed at an October 1 ceremony. The agreement aims to ease the transfer from MCC's early childhood program to UM-Flint for students seeking an elementary teacher certification and a specialization endorsement in early childhood.

UM-Flint Pre-Med Student Uses Art to Overcome Health Issues and Help Others

Third-year biology student Melyssa Secor has created art throughout her life for enjoyment but also to ward off the stress from her medical challenges. Now, two of her paintings will be auctioned off this fall to help families of pediatric heart patients. The University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital Congenital Heart Center will showcase and sell artwork from patients and family members November 15, including two pieces by Secor.
