  • UM-Flint Sets Record Enrollment

    The University of Michigan-Flint has set a new enrollment record for fall 2009 with 7,773 students, an increase of 513 students or 7.1% when compared to last fall's record setting enrollment of 7,260.

    For the fifth consecutive year, graduate enrollment continued to grow as more students pursue graduate degrees in high demand programs such as business, computer science and healthcare. Graduate student enrollment reached 1,192, an increase of 7.9% over fall 2008

    The University of Michigan-Flint is one of the best colleges and universities in the Midwest according to The Princeton Review.
    "We select the schools we recommend as our 'regional best' colleges primarily for their excellent academic programs," says Robert Franek, Princeton Review's V.P., publishing.

     
  • University of Michigan-Flint Tuition for 2009-2010 Academic Year

    The University of Michigan Board of Regents approved a 6.5 percent increase in undergraduate tuition for students at the University of Michigan-Flint.

    UM-Flint's proposed budget for 2009-2010 also included a 4.9 percent increase in graduate tuition and an 8.5 percent increase in institutional financial aid.

     
  • UM-Flint Provost Headed to EMU

    The University of Michigan-Flint provost and vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, has been named provost and executive vice president for Eastern Michigan University (EMU) pending approval by the EMU Board of Regents.

    Provost Jack Kay has held the position on the Flint campus for the past five years.

    A Peregrine Falcon chick has been moved to a University of Michigan-Flint building. According to the Michigan DNR, this is the first time they have a moved a chick from a building where it was born.

     
  • 2009 Faculty and Staff awards

    University of Michigan-Flint Provost Jack Kay has announced that ten faculty and staff have been selected to receive awards for excellence. The recipients will be honored at the Fall Academic Convocation scheduled for September 11. Those selected for the award were nominated by colleagues and selected by the Scholarships, Awards, and Special Events Committee.

     
  • New UM-Flint Program Welcomes Student Veterans to Campus

    The University of Michigan-Flint recognizes that returning veterans may experience unique challenges as they transition from military life to a civilian and student life. Accordingly, the University has created the Student Veterans Support Program (SVSP) to address this need. The program offers a centralized source of information and support for returning veterans as they strive to transition seamlessly.

     
  • University in China Joins Growing List of UM-Flint International Partners

    A regional campus of one of China's premier universities will work with the University of Michigan-Flint to develop programs that will send students to both countries.

    Recently, representatives of Ningbo Institute of Technology (NIT), signed an agreement that will facilitate future cooperation between the two schools. NIT is a regional campus of the Zhejiang University which is one of the major universities in China. There are over 10,000 students in six schools.

  • Gov. Granholm Helps Open Genesee Early College

    Governor Jennifer M. Granholm helped students cut the ribbon to officially open the Genesee Early College on Tuesday, September 4. The unique, new high school alternative run by the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) opened in the William S. White Building on the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint. It is the state's first early college high school that will prepare students for health careers on the campus of a major [tier 1] university.

    The University of Michigan-Flint, for the fifth year in a row, has earned a spot among Master's Universities in "America's Best Colleges" by U.S.News & World Report in the 2008 edition, the nation's leading source of service journalism and news. The exclusive rankings will be published in the magazine's August 27 issue, on newsstands Monday, August 20.

    An overwhelming number of students at the University of Michigan-Flint say they are satisfied with their overall educational experience. A national survey found that 85% of First Year students reported a favorable image of the university and 79% of seniors who responded would choose UM-Flint again if they could start their college career over.

     
  • UM-Flint Sets Enrollment Record for Fall 2007

    Enrollment at the University of Michigan-Flint has increased for the fall 2007 semester to a record setting level. The increase is led by continued growth in graduate students and a nearly 20% increase in new freshmen and an almost doubling of International Students. The overall increase is 5.5% compared to fall 2006, with nearly 6,900 students. Tenth day enrollment for fall 2006 totaled 6,527.

     
  • Banners Brand Campus

    They're everywhere! Forty-eight pairs of maize and blue banners now outline the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint. Long before you arrive on campus, you can spot the six-foot banners on light posts. This past summer, the Flint and Dearborn campuses adopted the Ann Arbor "M" as part of their official logos. That's the "M" used on the banners.
    "The banners do more than just brand and identify the campus," said Interim Chancellor Jack Kay. "They are our way of saying to the community around us; we are proud of who we are by showing our colors, and proud to be an active partner with our neighbors."

    Currently, the banners boarder most of the campus except for a few blocks on the Saginaw Street side of the Pavilion.
