  • Gov. Granholm Helps Open Genesee Early College

    Governor Jennifer M. Granholm helped students cut the ribbon to officially open the Genesee Early College on Tuesday, September 4. The unique, new high school alternative run by the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) opened in the William S. White Building on the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint. It is the state's first early college high school that will prepare students for health careers on the campus of a major [tier 1] university.

The exclusive rankings will be published in the magazine's August 27 issue, on newsstands Monday, August 20.

     
  • Perspectives on Ethics from the Middle East at UM-Flint

    Zarqa Nawaz, creator of the hit CBC sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie "Big Laughs on the Prairie" will be one of the speakers in a unique lecture series at the University of Michigan-Flint aimed at broadening world-views and providing a public forum that promotes understanding and dialogue between different ethical and belief systems and cultures.

     
  • What Students are Saying about their UM-Flint Experience

    An overwhelming number of students at the University of Michigan-Flint say they are satisfied with their overall educational experience. A national survey found that 85% of First Year students reported a favorable image of the university and 79% of seniors who responded would choose UM-Flint again if they could start their college career over.

     
  • UM-Flint Sets Enrollment Record for Fall 2007

    Enrollment at the University of Michigan-Flint has increased for the fall 2007 semester to a record setting level. The increase is led by continued growth in graduate students and a nearly 20% increase in new freshmen and an almost doubling of International Students. The overall increase is 5.5% compared to fall 2006, with nearly 6,900 students. Tenth day enrollment for fall 2006 totaled 6,527.

     
  • Banners Brand Campus

    They're everywhere! Forty-eight pairs of maize and blue banners now outline the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint. Long before you arrive on campus, you can spot the six-foot banners on light posts. This past summer, the Flint and Dearborn campuses adopted the Ann Arbor "M" as part of their official logos. That's the "M" used on the banners.
    "The banners do more than just brand and identify the campus," said Interim Chancellor Jack Kay. "They are our way of saying to the community around us; we are proud of who we are by showing our colors, and proud to be an active partner with our neighbors."

    Currently, the banners boarder most of the campus except for a few blocks on the Saginaw Street side of the Pavilion.

  • Packed House for Debate Watch

    A crowd of about 250 accepted the invitation from University of Michigan-Flint to join in watching Mayor Don Williamson and challenger Dayne Walling go head-to-head in a televised debate October 29, just eight days before the November 6 election .

    The hour-long debate was televised from WJRT (abc 12) and carried by TV-5, NBC 25 and Michigan Television.

    The secret is out; the University of Michigan-Flint has an Ultimate team. In fact, more than 20 students meet three or four times a week to practice it. Ultimate or Ultimate Frisbee as it is also called, is a team sport growing in popularity on college campuses across the country.

    The Scholarships, Awards and Special Events Committee and the Provost have announced the graduates selected to receive the Maize and Blue Distinguished Scholar Award, the highest academic award bestowed upon the graduates of the University of Michigan-Flint.

     
  • Regents Approve 2008 Housing Rates

    The University of Michigan Board of Regents has unanimously approved rates for the first residence hall on the University of Michigan-Flint campus. The rates are competitive with other public universities in Michigan.

     
  • December 2007 Commencement

    The University of Michigan-Flint December 2007 Commencement will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the James H. Whiting Auditorium (dba The Whiting). The ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. More than 350 graduates are planning to attend.

  • UM-Flint Awarded Brighter Futures Grant

    A new program will encourage University of Michigan-Flint students and alumni to work on-site with students at Flint Northern High School to help eighth and ninth graders, to gain proficiency in mathematics. The program entitled, University of Michigan-Flint Community Math Partnership is being funded by a Brighter Futures Grant awarded by the Michigan Campus Compact (MCC).

     
  • University to Offer Health Insurance to International Travelers

    Effective January 1, 2008, a new health insurance plan—University of Michigan HTH Worldwide Travel Abroad Health Insurance—will be required for all undergraduate students and selected other students participating in University for-credit or administered programs outside of the United States. This applies to students of all three U-M campuses.

  • Former Detroit Police Chief Conducts Diversity Training at UM-Flint

    University of Michigan-Flint police and security officers will be participating in a two-day diversity training session led by former Detroit Police Chief Dr. Isaiah McKinnon. Officers and staff from safety departments at Mott Community College and Kettering University have been invited to join the sessions.

    Flint area women are being offered a FREE health screening at the University of Michigan-Flint. On Monday, February 18, a Health Fair and "Go Red" for women's heart health luncheon will be held in the Harding Mott University Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
