Trey Day celebration hosted by the City of Flint, the University of Michigan-Flint, and Explore Flint & Genesee in honor of Flint native Trey McKenney following his recent national championship win with Michigan Wolverines men's basketball in Flint, Michigan on May 14, 2026.

Flint showed up for one of its own. Community members, local leaders and basketball fans packed the Riverfront Conference Center, May 14, to celebrate Flint native and University of Michigan men's basketball national champion Trey McKenney during "Trey Day." Hosted in partnership by the University of Michigan-Flint, the Flint & Genesee Group and the city of Flint, the event honored McKenney's standout freshman season, national championship run and deep Flint roots. In addition to McKenney, who received the key to the city from Mayor Sheldon Neeley, UM-Flint Chancellor Laurence B. Alexander was joined by Mateen Cleaves, a former Michigan State University and professional basketball player who also hails from the Vehicle City. From championship pride to hometown love, the celebration reflected the city's long basketball legacy and the community spirit that continues to shape it.
