UM-Flint Invites Community to "Touch-A-Truck" Public Safety Event
The University of Michigan-Flint is inviting the community to its first "Touch-A-Truck" event. It's great family fun and it's free.
The UM-Flint Department of Public Safety and Student Government have teamed up with other area law enforcement agencies and community organizations to hold this free community event intended to help familiarize children with the men, women, and yes, vehicles charged with keeping their community safe.
"Touch-A-Truck" will be held in the North parking lot of the UM-Flint campus at Saginaw Street and Fifth Avenue (across from Rally's) on Saturday, September 29th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will feature a large variety of unique vehicles that range from fire engines and rescue vehicles to a survival flight helicopter from the University of Michigan Health System. The helicopter crew's special training vehicle will also be on display. In all, about 30 specialty vehicles will be available to check-out.
In addition to the vehicles, there will be free food, face painting, balloons, free child I.D. kits, and bounce houses.
The event will also be the background for the launch of the new University of Michigan-Flint Bicycle Road Skills Course. Kids and adults are invited to bring their bikes to learn essential bicycle skills that help promote confidence before cycling in their own neighborhood. The course will be a permanent addition to the UM-Flint campus.
Ray Hall, UM-Flint director of public safety, says the event provides his department a unique opportunity to meet the community.
The event is presented in partnership with the Flint Police Department, Genesee County Sheriff Department, Mott Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, Genesee County Road Commission, and ELGA Credit Union.
