A Closer Look at the "Last Lecture" at UM-Flint
Jeffrey Zaslow, co-author along with Randy Pausch,
of the bestselling book The Last Lecture, will
meet with and speak to University of Michigan-
Flint students and faculty on Friday, October 17.
The public is also invited to hear Zaslow's
9a.m. keynote address at the annual Student Academic Success Summit in the Michigan Room at the University Center. -
IU Kokomo's Person Recommended as New Chancellor
Ruth J. Person, Chancellor of Indiana University Kokomo, has been recommended as the seventh leader of the University of Michigan-Flint. Person, an alumna of the University of Michigan, will begin her appointment August 18, pending approval by the Board of Regents. Inaugural festivities will be announced at a later date.

Institutional Review Board Gains Accreditation
The University of Michigan's Human Research Protection Program, which UM-Flint's Institutional Review Board (IRB) is an integral part, was recently granted full accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP). AAHRPP is a nationally recognized, nonprofit organization comprised of physicians, social and biological scientists, and attorneys. Marianne McGrath, chair, has worked for over three years to prepare the IRB for accreditation by improving board procedures and by offering education on ethical research practice to faculty, staff and students across campus.

International Winter Festival Photos
Hundreds of students joined in the fun for the first UM-Flint International Winter Festival held December 10 in the University Center. Over 3500 cookies were consumed.

Life Saving Technology Hangs on the Wall
Staff at the University of Michigan-Flint Recreation Center receives a variety of training, and much of it is aimed at saving a life. Recently, the training Chris Clolinger, who is the assistant director of intramural sports, received on the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) helped save the life of a Rec Center member.
