Faculty Member Selected Fulbright Scholar
Another University of Michigan-Flint faculty member has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar grantee. Susan Gano-Phillips, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences will travel to Hong Kong for the 2008-09 academic year.

Regents Approve UM-Flint Journalism Program
A new journalism program that emphasizes online and community news was approved at the May 15 meeting of the U-M Board of Regents for a fall launch at the University of Michigan-Flint.

UM-Flint Classes Related to TV and Film Production
In the Communication and Visual Arts department, new classes, as well as a partnership with Mott Community College, GASC, and MacProfessionals are in the works to begin a program in film. This will include production, theory, history, and criticism.

SPRING! And UM-Flint Fills the Air with Beautiful Music
Like the arrival of spring Robins, many music lovers look forward to the Annual Vocal Arts Festival at the University of Michigan-Flint. The spring festival is a highlight of the Department of Music and is an opportunity to showcase the talents of the vocal ensembles, which consist of both music and non-music majors.
This year's Festival will feature two events:
• Vocal Arts Recital on Thursday, March 26, 7:30 p.m., in 164 French Hall
• Vocal Arts Festival Concert, April 5, 4:00pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church -
Pre-Engineering Courses to be Offered to Lapeer Students
A unique new program, to begin in Fall 2008, will help prepare Lapeer High School seniors for a future career in engineering, and give them a jump on their college education. The University of Michigan-Flint is joining with the Lapeer County Intermediate School District Education and Technology Center to offer the pre-engineering program.

It will take place Saturday, September 27, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Happenings Room on the UM-Flint campus.

Poetry Under the Stars
When you think of a Planetarium, the study of the solar system or perhaps a laser show is something that may come to mind. However, in the coming months, the dome at Flint's Longway Planetarium will have a new use. Poetry with a love theme will be presented as part of the new "Poetry Under the Stars" series. Other presentations will cover rebirth, new beginnings, and faith. The presentations will have a multi-cultural flavor, one with Arabic and French to Polish and Spanish.

Memorial Service Set for Professor Wigston
There will be a memorial service this Friday, January 9, 1 p.m., at the Brown Funeral Home, 1480 Hill Road, Grand Blanc, for Dr. David Wigston, professor of biology in the University of Michigan-Flint College of Arts and Sciences. He was the former director of the University's Office of Research. He died at his home on the 29th of December after a long illness.

University of Michigan-Flint student Chad Mosher on CBS game show 'Million Dollar Password'
Chad Mosher got some help this past weekend with paying off his student loan. Mosher, a freshman at UM-Flint brought home $25,000 from an appearance on the CBS game show 'Million Dollar Password.'

Theatre Department Gets Special Invite
The University of Michigan-Flint Theatre Department has been invited to the Regional Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival to be held at Saginaw State University in early January. The department has been invited to present its production of How I Learned to Drive that was staged during November on January 10, at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

be worth even more. Find out why from Jonathan Schroeder, Chaired Professor of Marketing at the University of Exeter Business School, England. He will be the guest speaker at the University of Michigan-Flint on October 30. Schroeder is a guest of the Student Communications Association and will deliver his presentation at 12:30 p.m. in the Michigan Rooms of University Center. Because of the interest in Schroeder's research, the event is open to the public. -
UM-Flint / UM-AA Guaranteed Engineering Transfer Program
Two colleges of the University of Michigan, one on the Flint campus, the other in Ann Arbor, have formed a partnership to foster success among promising students by increasing the number of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) degrees granted by both institutions to non-traditional students.
