The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Mathematics will hold its 43rd annual Math Field Day on Tuesday, March 02, 2010.

Math Field Day brings together teams of five students from high schools throughout lower Michigan. The rigorous competition is designed to challenge each team member on a number of academic and social levels – from preparation and oral delivery of a convincing five-minute mathematical discussion at the chalk board, to a variety of fast-paced problem-solving activities in varying team arrangements, to preparation of a written team essay. Participants must work individually, in pairs and as a full-team. Math Field Day is much more than a mathematics competition, it is an engaging event that expands each participant's critical thinking and communication skills.

High school teams interested in participating may register on the Math Field Day Web site–
http://www.umflint.edu/math/Field_Day/index.htm . An email confirmation will be sent. The registration deadline is Friday, February 05, 2010.

This competition is offered free to registered schools due to the generosity of our sponsors. A grant from the James A. Welch Foundation and a corporate sponsorship from Gabriel, Roeder, Smith & Co. will provide critical support for this event.
