As of last week, the Office of Housing and Residence Life announced that all 310 beds in the First Street Residence Hall have been filled.

"Even though we are full, we are still accepting applications," said Jeanine Bessette, Director of Housing and Residence Life. "We understand that there may still be some students who change their minds and decide not to move in, so we want to make any open spots available to others."

Housing will add a new dimension to the University of Michigan-Flint campus. The residential students come from several counties in the state of Michigan, as well as from across the country and around the world. They are from such diverse areas as Ohio, Texas, Washington D.C., Canada, China, Taiwan, South Korea and India.

"We are delighted to welcome our first residents this fall," said Dr. Mary Jo Sekelsky, Vice Chancellor for Student Services and Enrollment Management. "These students are trailblazers for the University of Michigan-Flint and will forever change and redefine our identity as a campus."

Beginning August 18, ten residence hall advisors will move into their rooms so they are completely familiar with the facility before students arrive. On Sunday, August 24, the campus community will welcome students on Move-In Day. An official opening ceremony for the First Street Residence Hall will take place on campus on September 8.
