  • UM-Flint invites you to judge a bookstore by its new cover

    You can only judge a book after you read it, but one look at the newly renovated campus bookstore and you're likely to be wowed.

    In just three weeks, fixtures were upgraded, the floor plan changed for more consumer convenience, and softer colors now decorate the walls.

     

  • SOM students get a timely lesson in crisis communications

    "Be prepared for anything and learn from the mistakes of others," was just some of the advice given to students in the University of Michigan-Flint School of Management (SOM) recently, by a senior member of the U.S. Toyota Corporate Communications team.

    John McCandless, an executive with more than 30 years in the automotive industry, was able to provide SOM's students with a real-life look at a company in crisis and touched on the difficulties that executives can face when dealing with challenges, and competing views within an organization.

     

  • UM-Flint to explore benefits of urban gardening

    Suppose you had a deli near downtown Flint that was looking for an environmentally friendly source for lettuce, tomatoes and other toppings for its sandwiches. Currently, those items have to travel a long way by truck before they become part of a Flint-made sandwich. That means using gasoline and other forms of energy to get the food items to the deli. However, if there was an empty lot next door to the deli, you could consider growing those foods right there. Can't get much fresher.

     

  • Undergraduate Research moves to under the Capital Dome

    Students from the University of Michigan's three campuses (Flint, Dearborn, and Ann Arbor), Michigan State University, and Wayne State University will celebrate the contributions undergraduate students are making to the State of Michigan through their engagement in cutting edge research at the sixth annual Michigan Undergraduate Research Forum to be held at the State Capitol in Lansing on Wednesday, March 24.

     

  • UM-Flint and MSU announce Early Assurance Program for Premed Students

    Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and the University of Michigan-Flint entered into an agreement that provides a link between premedical students at the UM-Flint and MSU's medical school.

    The Early Assurance Program provides an enhanced opportunity for admission to medical school to qualified premedical students who wish to practice in the underserved areas

     

  • UM-Flint joins in helping food bank

    The UM-Flint Hockey Club and their coach Bill Golling were invited to appear on WJRT TV12 morning news (March 19) show to make a check presentation to Tracy Fowler-Johnston, development manager for the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan. Students from many campus organizations joined the "School Spirit" event and also brought food donations.

     

  • UM-Flint Nursing Students Help Treat 500 People-Many from Haiti

    University of Michigan-Flint student nurses recently carried over 900 pounds of donated medical items for patients in the Dominican Republic. The group was told that the clinics and hospitals where they volunteered in the Dominican Republic were filled with Haitian earthquake victims. Because of the great need, the students asked for donations for orthopedic items.

     

  • Poetry under the Stars

    The "Poetry Under the Stars" Series starts on Tuesday. March 9, at the Longway Planetarium. These events are free and open to the public, with a "meet the poets" segment from 6:30-7 p.m., and then the "poetry reading" from 7-8:30 p.m.

     

  • The Flint College Town Recycling Challenge

    Flint's four major colleges will be spending the next several weeks trying to determine who is Flint's Recycling Champion?

    As part of an Earth Day observance program, students, faculty, and staff at each school are being asked to bring items for recycling to campus. A large recycling trailer/dumpster will move from school to school spending a week at each location.
