UM-Flint's Sixth Annual Holiday Food Giveaway is Saturday, November 18

On Saturday, November 18, the University of Michigan-Flint will host the Sixth Annual Holiday Food Giveaway.

This year, the distribution of food begins at 1:00 p.m. and takes place at UM-Flint's William S. White Building (509 N. Harrison Street).

Organizers are still seeking volunteers for shifts on Saturday to help with food distribution. Alumni and community members are encouraged to participate. Volunteers may be assigned to activities outside and are urged to dress for weather conditions.

Kathryn Bylenga, director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, is leading the coordination of the Holiday Food Giveaway this year. She said, "It is incredibly important that as an institution in this community, we continue to partner in times of struggle and to celebrate in times of strength. The holiday seasons are a time for families and communities to come together, to celebrate, spread hope and joy, and to care for one another."

Since its inception in 2012, over 400 volunteers have gathered at UM-Flint to help fight hunger in our community, providing over 250,000 lbs. of food to approximately 4,900 families.

"Previous volunteers share that they look forward to this event every year," said Bylenga. "They enjoy meeting community members, getting to know fellow students, and having the opportunity to make a difference for the families they meet. I hope that students will be inspired to continue partnering with our community and learn from the community members they meet."
