UM-Flint Alumna Heads to Botswana with the Peace Corps

Barillas says will use her experience in the Peace Corps to work on a Ph.D. when she returns from Botswana.

Bettina Barillas credits her parents with instilling in her a desire to help others.  On August 11, Barillas will begin a long journey to do just that.

Her destination is the country of Botswana in Southern Africa where she will work with the Peace Corps and a non-profit agency that focuses on the HIV/AIDS  problem.

Barillas graduated from UM-Flint in 2011 with a BBA. Two years later she had her master's from Ohio State University in public administration with a minor in global health. She felt she had  prepared herself to take on the challenge that will keep her in Botswana for 27 months.

Barillas says will use her experience in the Peace Corps to work on a Ph.D. when she returns from Botswana.
