CELEBRATING CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY COLLABORATIONS
The University of Michigan-Flint will showcase its many partnerships between campus and community, and celebrate work which has not before been showcased. Many of the projects will be highlighted during the Partnership Showcase to be held on October 16 at 6 p.m. in the UM-Flint Theatre.
The focus of the evening's program, which is open to the public, will be to show how community members along with UM-Flint faculty, staff, and students collaborate to build upon shared assets, strengths, and capacities and to celebrate these outstanding campus-community partnerships. Featured projects include the Urban Alternatives House, the product of a partnership between the University of Michigan-Flint, Genesee County Land Bank, Local Income Support Corporation and the Carriage Town Neighborhood Association. The Urban Alternatives House will provide an example of an energy-efficient building for the community, and the house and urban garden will be a classroom location within the community serving as a base for instruction, community projects, and active participation in making the UAH complex a sustainable environment.
Also featured will be the Genesee Early College, which is an intensive, state-of-the-art five-year high school, combining the best of the high school and early university experience, located on the campus of the University of Michigan-Flint. The program is intended for students in Genesee County and beyond who are interested in exploring the medical and health professions. The Genesee Early College is a joint effort of the Genesee Intermediate School District, Greater Flint Health Coalition, Genesys Regional Medical Center, Hurley Medical Center, McLaren Regional Medical Center, and the University of Michigan-Flint.
These projects as well as many others will be celebrated throughout the evening.
A reception prior to the program begins at 5:30 p.m. in the UM-Flint Theatre Lobby.
