Faculty Member Selected Fulbright Scholar

Another University of Michigan-Flint faculty member has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar grantee. Susan Gano-Phillips, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences will travel to Hong Kong for the 2008-09 academic year.

Gano-PhillipsAnother University of Michigan-Flint faculty member has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar grantee. Susan Gano-Phillips, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences will travel to Hong Kong for the 2008-09 academic year.

Gano-Phillips is a member of the first cohort of American scholars in General Education to go to Hong Kong. She will be affiliated with the Hong Kong/America Center and a consortium of eight universities. She is expected to work to strengthen general education in all Hong Kong universities in the run-up to the first intake of students in a new four-year curriculum beginning in September, 2012. She will be based in the President's Office at City University in Kowloon. Her award includes a 10 month residency for her entire family.

"I am extremely honored to be selected to participate in the first year of the Building General Education Fulbright Scholar Program in Hong Kong," said Gano-Phillips. "My work will include contributing to the development of new interdisciplinary curricula and to the pedagogical skills used in teaching."

She co-chaired the General Education Reform Committee at UM-Flint and served as director of the Thompson Center for Learning and Teaching from 2003-2007. Her PhD in 1995 is from the University of Illinois, Urbana.

University of Michigan-Flint Professor Seyed Mehdian from the School of Management, received a Fulbright Scholar grant to travel to the Central European countries in the winter and spring 2007 semesters lecturing and doing research in his field of banking and finance. He has been selected again for Fulbright grant for spring 2008.

Associate Professor Joan R. Mars was awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and conduct research at The Centre for Criminology and Criminal Justice, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago during the 2005-2006 academic year.
