The University of Michigan-Flint has been ranked among Michigan’s top 10 colleges for value, according to the 2026 Washington Monthly College Guide and Rankings.

UM-Flint placed seventh among Michigan institutions in the publication’s “Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars” rankings, which evaluated 1,504 colleges and universities nationwide.

Unlike traditional college rankings that often emphasize institutional prestige and selectivity, Washington Monthly measures how well institutions serve students and the broader public. Its 2026 rankings assess colleges across four equally weighted categories: access, affordability, student outcomes, and community and national service.

The publication considers factors such as opportunities for students from lower-income households, the cost of attendance after financial aid, graduation outcomes, and graduates’ economic prospects.

According to university administrators, UM-Flint’s recognition reflects the university’s continued focus on making a University of Michigan degree attainable through competitive tuition, financial aid opportunities and programs such as the Go Blue Guarantee, which provides tuition assistance to eligible Michigan students.
