UM-Flint students honored for leadership, service at Celebrating Wolverine Excellence

    From sports to peer mentorship, the University of Michigan-Flint has outstanding students who positively impact their contemporaries and the community. 

    Each year, UM-Flint's Department of Student Involvement and Leadership recognizes these contributions at Celebrating Wolverine Excellence. The event honors the individual students and organizations that exhibit exemplary leadership skills, engage with the campus and/or Flint community, problem-solve and develop new ideas or initiatives, while working toward a community that is inclusive of various identities and perspectives. 

    The students and organizations are nominated by members of the UM-Flint community. The university celebrated these students, faculty and organizations at an annual event and dinner, April 13, at the university's Northbank Center.

    Winners include:

    Club Sports Outstanding Leadership
    This award recognizes someone who has shown exceptional leadership for their club sports team.

    • Anna Church, Women's Soccer

    Club Sports Most Valuable Player
    This award is given to an individual club sports athlete for positively impacting their team, and this person may make their impact felt in a number of different ways.

    • Dan Koglin, Men's Hockey and Baseball

    Emerging Leader Award
    The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a student in their first or second year at UM-Flint who has made a positive impact on campus.

    Fraternity & Sorority Member of the Year
    The award recognizes a fraternity or sorority member for their outstanding scholarship, leadership, service, and sisterhood/brotherhood during the current academic year.

    • Jakob Massaro, Kappa Sigma

    Housing and Residence Life Desk Assistant of the Year
    Housing and Residential Life Desk Assistant of the Year Award is given to an outstanding staff member who demonstrates a positive attitude, supports their team, and fosters an environment of care and quality service to the residential communities.

    • Brianna Peek

    Housing and Residence Life Resident Advisor of the Year
    Housing and Residential Life Resident Advisor of the Year Award recognizes someone who has shown a commitment to living the mission and serving as an exceptional leader within the community.

    • Lauren Bishai

    Inclusive Leader Award
    This award recognizes a student that demonstrated an active commitment to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

    Outstanding Student Leader
    This award recognizes a student leader who has shown exceptional leadership during their time at UM-Flint. This individual has demonstrated a commitment to creating positive change on our campus.

    This award recognizes a student organization that has demonstrated ethical leadership qualities and contributions to the UM-Flint during the current academic year.

    Peer Educator of the Year
    This award recognizes a student leader who is committed to teaching tools to inspire social change in our campus and surrounding communities.

    This award is presented to a student organization that held an outstanding event for the UM-Flint community during the current academic year.

    This award recognizes the dedication of a student organization faculty or staff advisor.

    Success Mentorship Outstanding PAVE Mentor
    This award recognizes a Peer Advisor for Veteran Engagement who has gone above and beyond to support other veteran students.

    Success Mentorship Outstanding Peer Mentor
    The Outstanding Mentor award honors a mentor who has gone above and beyond to support their mentee(s).

    The Outstanding Mentee award honors a mentee who has not only participated in the program but has attended events, and demonstrated commitment to their goals.

    Student Leader Community Contribution
    This award recognizes the contribution made by a student to Genesee County or Flint communities.

    • Chloe Summers

    Inclusive Community Award
    This award recognizes a student organization that demonstrated an active commitment to issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. 

    • Latinos United for Advancement

    Fraternity and Sorority Life Chapter of the Year
    This award recognizes the fraternity or sorority chapter which has done the most this academic year to live up to the high standards of their organization, including work in service, philanthropy, scholarship, and recruitment/retention of members.

    • Phi Sigma Sigma – Theta Iota Chapter
