When was the last time you took a really long bicycle ride?  How about joining a 30 mile ride that will take you in and around Flint?  It's called the Tour of Flint, and it's a great way to observe Bike Month (May) in the state of Michigan.

Faculty members Stephen Landon and Jacob Blumner are joining with local bicycle expert (and UM-Flint alum) J.J. Shaver to host the extended ride on Saturday, May 19. Riders will leave from the Good Beans Café at 10 a.m. for the first 15 mile ride. The second 15-mile ride begins between 12:15 and 12:30. The second 15 miles also includes some moderate hills.

The Tour of Flint will show riders pieces of Flint's history as well as parts of its present and future. The tour also promotes cycling in and around the city.

As of May 15, 2012, 85 bicyclists have registered to join the tour. Organizers are hoping to see that number jump to 100 by ride day. Participants are asked to register at the Tour of Flint website.

The ride is free, though organizers are asking for a donation for the League of Michigan Bicyclists, a bicycle advocacy group. Local bike shops and a variety of downtown businesses are sponsoring the event.
