California Professor Selected for 2013 African/African Diaspora Artists' Series

  • The Department of Africana Studies, UM-Flint, and the Flint Public Library invite the community to attend various free events featuring Professor Abani.

    A noted author, poet, and professor of creative writing at the University of California, Riverside has been selected as the guest presenter for the African/African Diaspora Artists' Series.

    Professor Chris Abani, Ph.D. will be in Flint April 10-13 to present lectures and performances at the Flint Public Library and the University of Michigan-Flint.

    Over the course of his career, he has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship (2009), PEN-Beyond the Margins Award (2008), Distinguished Humanist Award (UC-Riverside 2008), and the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award (2005).

    The Department of Africana Studies, UM-Flint, and the Flint Public Library invite the community to attend these free events featuring Professor Abani:

    • April 10,  1:30-2:30 PM – Public Lecture  at UM-Flint, Rm.161 French Hall
    • April 10, 7:00-8:00 PM –  Performance at UM-Flint, KIVA, University Center
    • April 11, 10:30 AM-1:30PM – Teen-Author Forum at Flint Public Library
    • April 11, 6-7PM  – Conversation with the Community at the Flint Public Library
