What happens when you bring together nearly three dozen K-12 students who love to sing, teach them new music and vocal techniques, and invite the community to watch them perform at the end of two weeks of practice? Pure, unadulterated joy! That's precisely what happened at the University of Michigan-Flint's 38th annual Summer Vocal Academy of Music. From July 8-19, the Maize (grades 5-7) and Blue (grades 8-12) choirs explored music theory and vocal technique, made new friends, and created music-inspired art pieces. During their final performance, the Maize Marimba Choir dazzled with the "Bluey Theme Song," and the Blue Choir rocked the audience with Journey's classic, "Don't Stop Believin'."
