Get an inside look at UM-Flint during the Fall Open House, Oct. 28

Starting college can be an overwhelming experience for many students and one of the most daunting aspects of the process is also the first: deciding which institution is the right choice to help them meet their future goals. Researching schools online can help narrow down the possibilities, but to get a true sense of the campus culture and opportunities available to students, there is no substitute for an in-person visit.

To aid future students in their search for the school that works best for them, the University of Michigan-Flint invites prospective first-year and transfer undergraduate students to attend its Fall Open House. The event, taking place 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Oct. 28, will grant attendees an in-depth look at the people and resources that make UM-Flint a top destination for students looking for world-class opportunities in a close-knit, supportive environment.

Breakout sessions for every area of interest

Following a buffet-style breakfast, open house programming begins with a series of breakout sessions that allow attendees to explore particular areas of interest. In addition to sessions devoted to the diverse academic offerings available at the university, prospective students and their families can learn more about:

Admissions and financial aid.
The Honors Program.
Peer mentoring.
Student involvement and leadership.
Housing.

Get a first-hand perspective during lunch

During lunch, a panel discussion with current students from a variety of majors will share insights from their lived experience living and studying at the university. Attendees will be invited to share their own questions with the student panel, offering another opportunity to gain real insights into life at the downtown campus.

Specialized campus tours will also be offered at this time, providing a glimpse at the places and spaces that allow for meaningful, experiential learning. Attendees can choose from a tour of the Murchie Science Building Expansion, which houses advanced laboratories and the College of Innovation & Technology; the School of Nursing and the Nursing Simulation Lab, which allows future nursing professionals to practice their skills before hitting the hospital floor; and a tour of fine arts and theatre spaces where students flex their creativity.

Attendees are entered to win a $1,000 scholarship

Multiple prize drawings will take place throughout the day, with the grand prize being a random drawing for a $1,000 scholarship. Every prospective first-year and transfer student in attendance is eligible to win.

While only one scholarship will be given away during the open house, UM-Flint offers numerous scholarship opportunities for new and continuing students. Every applicant is automatically considered for merit scholarships, which range from $4,000 to full tuition and fees. And with the Go Blue Guarantee, qualifying first-year students could receive up to eight semesters of free tuition. Qualifying transfer students are eligible for up to four semesters tuition-free.
