Fulbright Award Leads to UM-Flint Family Adventure
Besides being selected a Fulbright Scholar last year, the prestigious award given University of Michigan-Flint Associate Professor Susan Gano-Phillips Ph.D., included a 10 month residency for her family. Little did she realize that spending this past academic year helping to strengthen general education in Hong Kong universities, would lead to a great travel opportunity for her and her family.
She recently sent an update, complete with photos at the Great Wall, of an amazing year overseas:
"I'm wrapping up my Fulbright year in Hong Kong soon and will be returning to UM-Flint later in the summer. As part of the Fulbright experience, I consulted regarding Liberal Arts education and General Education programs throughout Hong Kong as well as in mainland China and in India. It has been a great professional and personal growth experience for me. I presented a paper with two fellow Fulbright scholars at the Asia Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) in Beijing, in April, which allowed for our visit to the Great Wall. "
Gano-Phillips' travel took her and her family to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, India, and Australia, in addition to Hong Kong, Macau, Zhuhai, Beijing, and Xi'an, China over the course of the year. While traveling, She presented over 40 seminars and workshops at Hong Kong and Asian universities and taught a post-graduate course on university teaching.
