UM-Flint named best online college in Michigan by University Magazine

UM-Flint’s commitment to quality online education has earned it top honors from University Magazine.

University Magazine recognized the University of Michigan-Flint as the state's top online university as part of its 2026 World University Rankings guide. 

In its summary of the ranking, University Magazine stated that UM-Flint "offers a wide variety of accredited online degree programs designed for students seeking flexibility and academic excellence … UM-Flint's affordable tuition and strong support services help students balance studies with career or family obligations. Graduates benefit from the university's strong reputation, preparing them for advancement in competitive job markets."

University Magazine is a Canadian online publication dedicated to offering current and future students the most up-to-date information on college life. The outlet uses a comprehensive range of metrics to determine institutional rankings, including academic reputation, employability and outcomes for graduates, learning experience, affordability, mental health support, sustainability and more.

"UM-Flint students receive the same outstanding education whether they learn on campus or in their living room, thanks to professors who develop high-quality curricula specifically tailored for each learning environment," she said. "The chance to meet students where they are, to make a difference and to be highly involved educators are factors that attract many UM-Flint faculty to our university. Our professors are committed to creating the next generation of Leaders and Best, no matter the modality."

UM-Flint offers close to 50 online and mixed-mode programs, ranging from the bachelor's to doctoral levels. The Office of Online & Digital Education ensures that students and faculty are supported in their learning and teaching. ODE Director Nick Gaspar described the office as a "one-stop shop" for bringing accessible, relevant, and high-quality education and training outside the confines of the traditional classroom.

"Our priority is to make a high-quality Michigan education available to as many people as possible, wherever they live or work," said Gaspar. "We collaborate with faculty to help them design courses built for online learning from the start. Our team provides seven-day help desk support and pairs expert professors with instructional designers so students can experience the same world-class teaching whether they're in Flint or across the country."
