Honoring the Legacy (MLK Day of Service Photo Gallery)
Students, faculty and staff at the University of Michigan-Flint joined together with the community, Jan. 15, to honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Programming started with a breakfast keynote by Egypt Otis, a 2020 UM-Flint graduate with a bachelor's degree in political science and owner of Comma Bookstore & Social Hub. Later in the day, the UM-Flint community participated in six volunteer opportunities, ranging from packaging meals with the United Way to tying no-sew blankets that were distributed to disadvantaged individuals. These activities were part of UM-Flint's "More Than a Day" initiative, which has celebrated King's work every year since 1995. As engaged citizenship is one of the central pillars of UM-Flint's mission, the MLK Day of Service is an important opportunity for UM-Flint to continue the university's year-round partnership with community members and organizations.
