Student life at UM-Flint is back in person for the fall semester! Be sure to check out the variety of events on campus, and then own this school year!

Thursday, August 26

Rec Bash

Thursday, August 26th | 7-9 p.m. | UM-Flint Recreation Center

For UM-Flint students, there's a variety of club sports, intramural sports, free fitness classes, and equipment available at the Recreation Center. The Rec Bash is a perfect way to learn about these offerings while enjoying snacks, prizes, music, and drop-in sports. The first 200 students will receive UM-Flint beach towels, which will serve as a great seat for UM-Flint's Movie on the Lawn! 

Movie on the Lawn (Wonder Woman 1984)

Thursday, August 26th | 8:30 p.m. | First Street Lawn 

Add some wonder to your first night on campus by joining residents for a showing of Wonder Woman 1984. Bring a chair/blanket and enjoy!

Friday, August 27

Wolverine Welcome 

Friday, August 27th | 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. | North Lawn

First-year, transfer, and second-year students are invited to learn about their new community through team building, activities, food, and fun! Wolverine Welcome is a great way to connect with other students and get to know campus traditions. Be sure to register for this day-long program beforehand. 

Game Night with the Greeks

Friday, August 27th | 6:30 p.m. | First Street Residence Hall 

Residents in First Street Residence Hall can come meet some of UM-Flint's fraternity and sorority members while playing board games, video games, card games, and yard games! Guests may not be allowed at this event. 

Movie on the Lawn (Hobbs & Shaw)

Friday, August 27th | 8:30 p.m. | North Lawn 

Join residents for a showing of Hobbs & Shaw on the North Lawn. Campus movie nights are a key part of getting into the back-to-school spirit at UM-Flint, so bring a blanket/chair and enjoy!

Saturday, August 28 

HAP Crim Festival of Races

Saturday, August 28th | 7:00 a.m-12:00 p.m. | Downtown Flint

Become immersed in downtown Flint tradition by attending the 44th annual HAP Crim Festival of Races! In addition to the race, spectators can check out food, music, vendors, and other entertainment. 

Biking the Flint River Trail & Campus

Saturday, August 28th | 5:00 p.m. | Rec Center

Become a tourist at your own school by taking part in a relaxing bike ride along the Flint River Trail. Bikes are provided for free, and registration is encouraged. 

Block Party

Saturday, August 28th | 5:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. | First Street Lawn 

Enjoy your welcome to campus from offices around UM-Flint. First Street residents can kick back and relax with all sorts of fun!

Cookout & New Student Welcome

Overcome jitters on the first day of school eve by attending the New Student Welcome Cookout. This event is the perfect opportunity for new and transfer students to make friends before the big day! 

Tuesday, August 31

Success Mentorship Open House

Tuesday, August 31st | 12:30 p.m-3:00 p.m. | Happenings Room (1st Floor UCEN)

College can be uncharted territory for many, but you're not alone! First-year students and new transfer students can learn how to sign up to participate in the Success Mentorship Program as a mentee at this open house. Continuing students can learn more about becoming a mentor to a fellow student.

Mgagement Involvement Fair

Wednesday, September 1st | 2:00 p.m-5:00 p.m. | French Hall 111

Your introduction to UM-Flint's 100+ student organizations begins with the Mgagement Fair! Pick up a map in French Hall 111 and explore all of the student organizations, departments, and community organizations UM-Flint has to offer. Participating students can also enjoy free food and other fun activities. 

CAB Movie on the Lawn

It might sound corny, but here's a little kernel of wisdom: Campus Activities Board's Movie on the Lawn is a long-standing campus tradition you should definitely attend! Come and join the campus community by watching Guardians of the Galaxy and eating snacks.

Center for Gender and Sexuality Open House

September 2nd | 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. | CGS Office (Second Floor of UCEN)

The Center for Gender and Sexuality (CGS) focuses on supporting all students, faculty, and staff in deepening and enriching their awareness on all issues related to gender and sexuality. Check out all this center has to offer along with CGS's new student hangout space! In this event, students can play games, eat snacks, make new friends, and sing karaoke.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) Open House

September 7th | 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. | UCEN Room 264

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is an excellent campus resource that offers therapy, free screenings, referrals to outside agencies, and crisis services to students. Interested students can join the CAPS staff in their office to learn more and meet staff members!

Virtual Club Sports Mgagement Fair

September 7th | 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. | Online 

Can't make September 1's Mgagement Fair? No problem! Tune into Club Sports' virtual engagement fair to learn about how you can join a team this fall. A Zoom link will be posted closer to the event date. 

Social Hour with Dr. Greg Laurence

September 7th | 5:30 p.m. | Flint Farmer's Market, 2nd-floor outdoor patio

School of Management students and alumni: you're invited to join Dr. Greg Laurence for a Social & Networking Hour! Reconnect with students, alumni, and SOM staff and faculty at SOM's first in-person event of 2021. Register for this event by Sunday, September 5th. 

Cryptocurrency

September 7th | 7 p.m. | Online

Dr. Peter Bush, Lecturer of Accounting & Finance will be discussing his research on cryptocurrency. This is an informative workshop for students interested in learning more about cryptocurrency and opportunities to invest. Interested students should register before attending this presentation.

Woman Talk Wednesday

Join CGS to help honor and salute the women who are challenging stereotypical norms and changing the world! In these weekly meetings, attendees can also discuss current events that affect women in the world, women empowerment, leadership, and more.

IM Sports Basketball 3-Point Shot Contest

Are you a three-point threat? Prove your basketball skills and join the Rec Center's 3-Point Basketball Contest, open to current students and faculty/staff with Recreation Center memberships. Be sure to sign up before attending.

Queer Thursday Kick-off

Thursday, September 9th | 1:45 p.m.-2:30 p.m. | 213 UCEN or Online

This is a space to come hang out, chat about school, queer theory, share your ideas, talk about Queer pop culture, etc. Stop by, say hey, and hang out with UM-Flint PRIDE and CGS from 1:45-2:30 every Thursday of the semester! This is a hybrid event with the option to attend in person at 213 UCEN (CGS office) OR attend live virtually.

Intercultural Center Cookout

Join the Intercultural Center for their annual cookout, where you can enjoy free food and music while learning about how the ICC provides resources to the campus community. 

Friday, September 10

Blueprints Leadership Conference

Friday, September 10| 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. | Michigan Rooms (First Floor UCEN)

Blueprints Leadership Conference is a focused student organization officer experience, with both virtual and in-person components. Each organization must have at least two officers from the organization registered for this all-day experience.
