Former Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Interim Chancellor, Professor Jack Kay, passed away on Friday, January 30.

Professor Kay served the University of Michigan-Flint in many capacities from September 2005 through August 2009. He is remembered as a change agent on campus, using his role as a leader to develop the areas of academics, diversity, and student success. Under his leadership, new undergraduate and graduate programs were introduced and flourished. He worked tirelessly to create a resource for student veterans on this campus. He worked with the Honors Program to launch the Scholarship Day program at UM-Flint. Professor Kay helped to start the debate and forensics activities in the Communication Department. During his time as interim chancellor, Professor Kay oversaw the groundbreaking and construction of the First Street Residence Hall, re-organized various departments on campus, and created the first on-campus concert, MFUSE, featuring the artist Common.

Chancellor Susan E. Borrego stated, "Faculty and staff have shared stories of his boundless energy and his never-ending quest for excellence. Professor Kay's commitment to this campus is an example of the incredible difference each individual makes at UM-Flint."
