"I am confident that Dr. Borrego will be a strong leader and advocate for the campus as well as the community. As chancellor, she will further the critical role of UM-Flint in our region and state," said President Mary Sue Coleman.

Borrego currently serves as the vice president for enrollment management, planning, and student affairs at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Throughout her extensive career in higher education, Borrego has been a leader in the areas of enrollment management, diversity, student success programs, and student affairs.

President-Elect Mark Schlissel said, "I look forward to working together with Dr. Borrego to help UM-Flint fully realize its aspirations and to better leverage the activities of the Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn campuses. Dr. Borrego's deep experience and passion for students will be a great asset for the whole University in the years to come."

Borrego will be the eighth leader of UM-Flint. Inaugural festivities will be announced soon.

"It is an honor to become part of the University of Michigan-Flint," Borrego said. "I am impressed with the deep commitment that the campus has to the students and the community. I am proud to join such an outstanding university."

In her most recent role at California State University, Dominguez Hill, Borrego led the campus through a variety of initiatives that strengthened the campus. She was an integral part of developing a new strategic plan, rebranding and marketing the university, as well as developing and implementing a strategic enrollment plan. Borrego also was charged with oversight of student affairs and intercollegiate athletics, and coordinated the development of a veterans services office for the campus.

Raised in Detroit, Borrego received her Ph.D. in education from Claremont Graduate School. In addition to her role as chancellor, Borrego is being recommended for a tenured faculty appointment in the UM-Flint School of Education and Human Services.

"UM-Flint is a great university that offers students an excellent educational experience," said Borrego. "I am eager to meet with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders. I want to hear their perspectives. I believe strongly in working collaboratively with all stakeholders for the good of the campus and the community."

Chancellor Ruth J. Person will end her term July 31. She will remain part of the UM-Flint community as a professor in the School of Management.
