Each year, the Office of Educational Opportunity Initiatives Diversity Education Services, along with the Office of Student Life, coordinate events to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Annual Day of Service for 2011 will be held on Monday, January 17, and will offer nine locations where students, faculty, and staff can sign up for volunteer service.

The Day of Service begins with a volunteer breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the Ontario Room, first floor University Center (UCEN).

The Red Cross will begin the annul blood drive at 9 a.m. in the Michigan Rooms in UCEN.

That same morning, the campus will host the 4th Annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint Mentoring Inspiration Breakfast. It will be held in the Ballroom of Northbank Center, 9-11 a.m. This annual fundraiser supports Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint's 100 Boys, 100 Men mentoring initiative. Tickets are $10.

There are many activities planned for UM-Flint's observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. For a complete list, and to register for a Day of Service, click visit the MLK National Holiday 2011 Calendar of Events.
